Don Henderson Project
total : $5150Double CD 'The Songs of Don Henderson' 15 Dec 2009 release
About the project
The object of the Don Henderson Project is to introduce his songs to a new generation of the folk song movement in Australia and elsewhere. There is enough recorded material to produce a comprehensive selection on a double CD of Henderson songs. The second part of the project will be to republish Don's out of print songbook 'A Quiet Century'.
Sponsorship involved enthusiasts and supporters to ensure that the project would be viable. Such sponsorship seems to have become a tradition of its own, with roots in the folk community.
Many thanks to all our sponsors whose generosity has made the first part of the project possible.
All sponsors of the Don Henderson Project were acknowledged in the CD booklet, and were entitled to add a brief quote giving their reasons for sponsoring the memorial CD. Sponsors will all receive three CDs after production acknowledging their financial support.
Sponsorship was open to anyone, individuals, folk clubs, folk festivals and other organisations. The cost of sponsorship of the project was set at a flat rate of $150. The resulting budget allowed the production of a comprehensive CD of high standard. It also ensures an initial distribution, as each sponsor will receive CDs.
Don's songs have been recorded by many folk revival singers including Declan Affley, Don Ayrton, Bill Berry, The Cobbers, The Colonials, Terry Hannagan, Alex Hood, Tommy Leonard, Paradiddle, Helen Rowe, Gary Shearston, Danny Spooner, Ian White, Geoff Wills and of course Don himself. Don's songs appeared in a number of song collections and magazines including Australian Tradition, Singabout, Songs of Our Times, Joy Durst Memorial Australian song collection, Songs of Australian Working Life, Builders Labourers' Songbook. There were also two collections of his songs and poems, I Can Sing and A Quiet Century, the latter published in 1994 by Sally Henderson with the Queensland Folk Federation.
